چکیده

The surface core-level shifts (SCLS) on the (0001) surface of beryllium were used to study the phase diagram of the hydrogen-induced reconstructions on this surface. Two different top-layer reconstruction phases are formed upon atomic hydrogen adsorption below and above room temperature, respectively. We are able to assign a characteristic core-level spectrum to an individual reconstruction phase and trace its presence at various hydrogen coverages and sample temperatures. This technique makes it possible to survey the lowcoverage regions that are lacking long-range ordering. Adsorption of atomic hydrogen in a temperature range of 100 to 270 K induces a (Î33Î3dR30° H-Be(0001) chemisorption structure, in which 1/3 of the Be top-layer atoms are removed to form a honeycomb structure of Be vacancies. Upon adsorption above 300 K a s133d superstructure forms, which has been proposed to exhibit a missing-row reconstruction of the Be top layer. Our hydrogen-induced SCLS measurements reveal that beryllium vacancies are forming already at small H coverages of 0.2 monolayers.

Synchrotron x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy study of hydrogen-terminated 6H-SiCˆ0001‰ surfaces

We report on highly resolved core-level and valence-band photoemission spectroscopies of hydrogenated, unreconstructed 6H-SiC(0001) and (0001̄) using synchrotron radiation. In the C 1s core level spectra of 6H-SiC(0001̄) a chemically shifted surface component due to C-H bonds is observed at a binding energy (0.4760.02) eV higher than that of the bulk line. The Si 2p core-level spectra of SiC(0001...

Surface Core - Level Shifts at an oxygen - rich Ru Surface :

We present density-functional theory calculations of Ru 3d and O 1s surface core-level shifts (SCLSs) at an oxygen-rich Ru(0001) surface, namely for the O(1× 1)/Ru(0001) chemisorption phase and for two surface terminations of fully oxidized RuO2(110). Including final-state effects, the computed SCLSs can be employed for the analysis of experimental X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) data en...

Non-local Effects on Oxygen-Induced Surface Core Level Shifts of Re(0001)

The electronic structure of clean and oxygencovered Re(0001) was investigated by combining high energy resolution core level photoelectron spectroscopy and density functional theory. For the clean surface, we detect two distinct Re 4f7/2 components shifted by 95 meV, which we ascribe to photoemission from the bulk and the top layer of the crystal. Oxygen adsorption at room temperature leads to ...

طراحی، ساخت و مشخصه یابی پله های فازی شیشه ای برای کاربرد در تداخل سنجی جابجایی فاز

In this paper, we report on the design and fabrication of a low-cost phase shifter for application in phase shifting interferometry. Phase shifting interferometry is a powerful method for surface characterization. It uses interference data recorded during a series of predetermined phase shifts to recover the induced phase by the object surface. These controlled phase shifts are typically perfor...

O- and H-induced surface core level shifts on Ru(0001): prevalence of the additivity rule.

In previous work on adsorbate-induced surface core level shifts (SCLSs), the effects caused by O atom adsorption on Rh(111) and Ru(0001) were found to be additive: the measured shifts for first-layer Ru atoms depended linearly on the number of directly coordinated O atoms. Density-functional theory calculations quantitatively reproduced this effect, allowed separation of initial- and final-stat...
